How to Handle Inactive Employees on PTE Timesheet Status Report

The impending solar eclipse surely indicates something spooky’s happening in the cosmos. It’s affected my life by way of three different Microsoft Dynamics GP clients all moving from Business Portal (PDK) to the built-in Employee Self-Service and Project Time and Expense (PTE) functionality of GP 2016 R2.

Learn more about the new Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2:  Project Accounting PTE Timesheet Status Report here.

The report is a pivotal part of managing PTE timesheets and a welcome improvement to the PTE module. However, there’s a glaring problem that makes it impossible to use in larger GP implementations. The PTE timesheet status report pulls all employees regardless of their active/inactive status. Right now, there’s no way to filter the inactive users from the report. My clients obviously weren’t happy with Microsoft’s out-of-the-box solution.

After some research, I located the stored procedure used in generating the report. A quick modification will allow you to restrict the report to active employees. Be sure to have backups anytime you directly make changes in structured query language (SQL). The name of the stored procedure and added SQL code are listed below.

Dynamics GP Upgrades Lead to Missing Navigation List Data

We recently had a great day in the Rockies, but missed that standard Colorado sunshine. Coincidentally, a few of my Microsoft Dynamics GP clients also missed the standard Project Time and Expense (PTE) functionality of their systems.

Three separate upgrades with three unique upgrade paths to get to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016R2 led to the same results:  missing Employee Self-Service PTE Expense Navigation Lists—see the graphic below. Our troubleshooting determined the Navigation List data was missing from the SY07220, SY07221, SY07222 and SY07225 tables. The scripts to recreate the data and restore Navigation List functionality can be found below.

insert into SY07220 (ListDictID,	ListID,	ViewID,	ViewName,	CompanyVisibility,	IsShared,	RoleSharing,	UserSharing,	CRUSRID,	CREATDDT,	MDFUSRID,	MODIFDT,	DefaultViewID)
values( '258',	'958',	'2',	'Not Submitted', '2',	'1',	'0',	'0',	'DYNSA', '2016-05-24 00:00:00.000',	'sa', '2016-05-24 00:00:00.000',	'3')

Using Excel Refreshable Reports in Dynamics GP

A Microsoft Dynamics GP feature that isn’t hidden but also often isn’t used is refreshable Excel reports. These reports give users the ability to view GP data using Excel without exporting data using SmartList. The data is live, and reports can be refreshed to view new and updated data. This webinar will demonstrate how to use and create these reports.

Creating a Customer-Centric Culture in a Customer-Focused World

“It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages.” –Henry Ford

A recent conference on customer engagement shared principles that everyone can use to develop pro-customer organizations. The story is not necessarily one of revolution, but evolution.

Customers always have looked for the best products or services, but now their buying decisions are increasingly based on who also will provide the best experience. How can your business improve customer engagement to increase satisfaction and value?

The Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Evolution 2017 Conference tackled this subject. Here are some observations from the conference and how they apply to many organizations:

Questions companies need to ask include:

People do buy from people, but customers also need organizations—staffed with people and empowered by technology—where they can build a trusted relationship.

Creating Your Customer-Centric Culture

Even though digital transformation is more about the customer than technology, putting your customers at the center of an organization requires technology. The customer story has many chapters—sales, marketing, customer service, field service, purchasing, billing, social engagement, etc. As each chapter is written, the typical problem is that vital information gets trapped in separate systems, emails, files and spreadsheets. You can’t read one chapter of a book and expect to understand the full story.

This is one reason why we at BKD are excited about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement. We can help build a fully integrated, centralized platform for end-to-end customer management—for businesses of any size. It helps level the playing field for creating a customer-centric culture and elevating the customer experience. It has removed many barriers to competing on customer experience, particularly for small to midsize businesses.

View our webinar, “Excellence in Customer Service,” to learn more about some of the innovative customer engagement tools available with Dynamics 365.

A Roadmap to Successful Software Implementation

No matter the size of a software implementation, it represents significant change for organizations and individuals. Specific industry requirements and practices further affect complexity and highlight the need for customization. Organizational stress is increased in the transportation industry with fleet management requirements, procurement lifecycles, multisystem integrations and payroll intricacies. As a result, risk management and a smooth transition are top of mind for any business implementing new software.

Project management methodologies reduce stress by handling the process, change and associated risks of software implementation. Engaging a professional project management team helps keep the budget and timeline on track, which lowers organizational stress. A well-constructed project plan reflects the tasks, responsibilities and timeline so team members understand expectations regarding workload and accountability. In the plan-development process, organizational constraints and transportation industry specifics are considered to achieve realistic deadlines with the allocated resources.
